Did you know that many CAIA candidates complete both parts of the exam within a year?
If this is your plan, you might want to plan ahead, mark the dates, and make sure you don’t miss the testing windows.
Unlike some of the professional exams such as CPA and CMA, the CAIA exam is offered only twice a year, in March and in September.

After paying the registration fee, you will receive an email confirmation which include information on how to schedule your exam at the testing centers. You can then pick the location and date for the exam.
Please note that you cannot postpone the exam to the next testing window. If you miss the exam date, you will need to re-register and pay the fee again in the next testing window. The retake fee is considerably lower and you can check out the CAIA exam fee here for details.
1. Is there a time limit when you must take Level 2 after passing Level 1?
No, you can take your time to complete the 2 parts of the exam. This is different from other accounting and finance designation, e.g. for CPA exam in which you must complete the 4 parts of the exam within 18 months.
Candidates were required to complete Level 1 and 2 of the exam within 3 years but this rule has been removed in March 2011.
2. Can I take Level 2 Exam before Level 1?
No, it is sequential (similar to the CFA exam). You have to take Level 1 before moving on to Level 2 of the exam.
3. Can I Take Level 1 and Level 2 within the same testing window?
No, it is not possible.
4. Is late registration accepted with an extra fee?
No. Late registration is not accepted in any circumstances — which means you need to plan ahead!
You can reschedule your exam without charge as long as it is done 72 hours before, and that space is available at your chosen testing center.
Also, you can only reschedule within the same testing window. Postponing the exam to the next testing window is not allowed.
Can I Get a Refund?
The one-off enrollment fee is non-refundable, but you can request a refund of exam registration fee within 30 days of the date of purchase via email. Check the link below for details on costs and fees.
